In 2018, Save The Beach was involved in the placement of dustbins as well as conducting awareness sessions in Muhiyddin School, the primary to secondary education facility based in Villimale’, as part of its ongoing Waste Management Project.

Dustbins were placed within the school allowing for the separation of paper, metals, plastic as well as general waste.

The awareness sessions were conducted separately for for each individual grade.

One of the major issues that was indentified over the course of the project was the lack of awareness of students and that the school’s enforcement of the new waste management system needed to be strengthened.

In order to achieve this, it is vital that waste management sessions are not only conducted for students, but for parents, teachers and supporting school staff as well, so that everyone is on the same page about what we are trying to accomplish.

Muhyddin’s Waste Management Project commenced in July, 2017, and is set to continue in 2019 as well, inclusive of the previously mentioned and much-anticipated sessions that are currently in planning for January 2019, which will target all school staff and parents.
