AWARENESS PROGRAMmes

Every year we plan many activities to raise awareness on waste management, climate change and the coral reef ecosystem.

Our work is always supported by the community that is actively involved in our projects.

Since 2012 we have carried out awareness programs with the schools in Male’ and the community. We have been actively engaged with Muhyiddin School’s environment club activities since 2012 and since 2015 have led some of the activities of the club. We have created and implemented waste management plan in Muhyiddin School, organised cleanups, tree planting programs and a door-to-door awareness program in Villingili, with the help of the Muhyiddin students. We currently assist the school to plan and organise yearly activities for their environment club FRONA and lead a programme called “Muraka Kudhin” with the Muhyiddin Scouts Group.

Over the years we have met students and groups from various island communities and also from the corporate world. They come to learn about waste, carry out clean-ups, learn about coral reefs, coral restoration and to check out the restoration site! We have also had the opportunity to travel to other islands to carry out workshops, classes, and lessons. We use opportunities to take part in events and expos, to talk about the environment and threats we face today. All these are good chances for us to increase the community’s awareness and we are grateful to be able to reach so many people.

We also developed television infomercials about reducing waste, plastic, ocean plastics and recycling, which currently air on local national television PSM.

We have placed different billboards around Villingili's beaches about environmental conservation, proper use of dustbins and our restoration site. We believe the beaches are the most used areas on the island and are the ideal places to send messages!

We also took part in interviews for international tv channels (like France24, BBC, CNN and RTL)

Thanks to our partnership with Secret Paradise Maldives since 2015 we have the opportunity to meet tourists coming to Male’ to share with them the story of Save the Beach and the challenges the Maldives’ environment is facing!

For one day visit, we organise eco-tours around the Island to show how the coastline changes with the many reclamations and development projects.

Since 2022 we have been cooperating with Camp Maldives to organise small eco-courses, including a swim to the reef and fish ID activity. It is always a pleasure to meet many passionate people eager to learn about the Maldivian environment!
