UNDERWATER CAMERAS system

In October 2022 we installed 3 underwater cameras on the restoration site to monitor the fish community!

Thanks to the Nature Counts Foundation and their amazing support and assistance, we were able to install the first “Power Tower” in the Maldives.

This is the first fully independent (solar-powered) system that films and live-stream the reef, that is able to analyse the images. The system consists of 3 cameras connected to a computer onsite. The images are sent to a cloud and analyzed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) which will recognize fishes and other macrofaunal organisms and evaluate the biodiversity status of the area.

This system is built to last for multiple years and it is made to quantify the changes in biodiversity as the reef restoration evolves!

The videos are uploaded to the cloud thank to the cooperation of Ooredoo Maldives.

This project aims to better understand the positive impact of the coral restoration activity and to increase our knowledge about the fish biodiversity on the site.
